Support Group for Egg Donor Recipients

This ongoing peer-led support group is for women who have been or have considered being an egg donor recipient as part of fertility treatment. Because this decision often introduces a wide range of emotions and questions, extra support from others who have been through the same process or are also currently going through it can be highly beneficial. The group moderator leads themed discussions and activities and ensures a safe sharing environment. Participants should be assured that their privacy will be respected and the group is entirely anonymous. The group meets once a month on Wednesday evenings. The next meeting date will be sent to you upon registration.

The Wellnest Weight Loss Collaborative

With a small group of other women, meet with our nutritionist Melissa Henkin once a week to make incremental, manageable, and healthful changes to your food intake over 8 sessions.

You will set goals at the first session and start each week by reviewing how you’re feeling, your successes, and your obstacles. In each meeting you will learn key nutrition principles as well as practical tools and techniques to help you achieve permanent weight loss. The group will provide support, accountability, and (of course!) recipes to motivate you make the changes you want to make.

The program is not about eating less, but rather about incorporating more wholesome foods into your diet. In the end, you will have a solid foundation for long-term healthy eating and, along the way, lose weight. For some, even a 5% shift in body weight makes a huge difference to overall health. We invite you to give it a try.

*A Free Library of Philadelphia Culinary Collaboration*

Did you know your diet can help with menopausal symptoms and associated health risks? (Hint: It’s more than dark chocolate.)

Drawing on insights from medicine, nutrition, and Chinese Medicine, this class will teach you how to use food to handle what menopause brings. Through a fun, hands-on cooking class, you will learn:

  • Which foods and herbal formulas alleviate hot flashes, night sweats, headaches, fatigue, insomnia and mood swings, and which foods make them worse
  • How to prevent weight gain or lose weight associated with hormonal changes

  • How to get specific nutrients through your diet to maintain bone density

You’ll also come away with recipes and how-to knowledge to bring these lessons into your day-to-day life. This will be an excellent opportunity to ask questions from the teachers -- our cofounder (a Reproductive Endocrinologist), our holistic nutritionist, and our acupuncturist -- about how to deal with menopause holistically.

Best Dressed: A Free Cooking Class

In collaboration with the Culinary Literacy Center at the Free Library of Philadelphia, we bring you...Best Dressed: A Tutorial in Red Carpet Worthy, Nutrient Dense Salad Dressings!

Get ready to give Newman’s Own a run for their money.

Salad dressings are an often forgotten piece of the puzzle when it comes to healthy eating, but how you dress your salad is just as important as what goes in your salad. Salads can be a fantastic source of nutrients, but with the wrong dressing you may not get the most out of those nutrients. Plus, salad dressings that you buy off the shelf can have loads of unhealthy fats, sugars, and preservatives that counterbalance all the goodness of the veggies you’re putting them on. Yikes!

In this class, you will learn the basics behind creating flavorful, nutrient-rich sauces, dressings, and marinades to dress your salad for success. Using simple cooking techniques, high quality ingredients, and various flavor profiles, we’ll whip up red carpet worthy dressings that maximize nutrient density and enhance flavor to a whole new level. All participants will go home with a mason jar of dressing they make in class.

This event is free! But space is limited, so sign up now to reserve your spot.

Introduction to Meditation

We know it’s important to make quiet time for ourselves, but sometimes it’s hard to know how to use that time to maximize its potential for relaxation. The practice of meditation is one of the ways to do so. Through meditation, we work towards relaxing fully into the moment and releasing ourselves from the thoughts that occupy our minds processing the past and planning into the future. In the Introduction to Meditation workshop, we will learn some basic skills to use on a daily basis to really, truly relax, even if it’s just for 5 minutes at a time. The class will cover a few techniques, including visualization, body-scanning and progressive relaxation.

Nutrition for Fertility Workshop

While many factors contributing to fertility are beyond our control, nutrition is not one of them. In fact, nutrition and healthy eating are directly related to fertility. Not only does what you eat (i.e. diet composition) determine if your reproductive system is functioning at its peak ability, but your weight has a major effect on your hormone levels and risk of miscarriage as well.

In this workshop, you will learn how to create a nurturing environment in the body to create and support new life. In 90 minutes with nutritionist Leslie Neri, you will:

  • Receive an introduction to the scientific principles behind why your diet and your weight relate to your fertility
  • Learn how nutrition can be used to promote fertility and healthy conception and what ‘healthy eating’ means during this specific time in your life
  • Receive recipes and resources to help you easily get started at home

This workshop is relevant to both men and women! All are encouraged to attend.
